INDIANAPOLIS — The Bike Walk Roll to School day at Anna Brochhausen Elementary School 88 was a big success, with many families participating. IMPD sent some of their finest to escort youngsters to class. Frewheelin’, Health by Design, and the Marion County Health Department partnered with the school to make everything happen.
Leslie Schulte, board member of Community Heights said, “The goal of the Community Heights Tactical Urbanism projects on 10th and 16th St is to make it safer and more dignified to travel in our neighborhood. We celebrated our safer, calmer streetscapes with a bike bus, an adult led ride through the neighborhood to school. We also set up an obstacle course on the playground for students to test their biking skills.”
Bike Walk and Roll to School Day is celebrated every year to encourage alternatives for kids to get to neighborhood schools safely.
The streetscape in front of the school and murals painted on the pavement on 16th St. encourages drivers to slow down and pay attention in the school zones.
