• The 50th Benton House Home Tour and Classy Car Show was a huge success, with over 600 tickets sold! The VIP Tour was amazing, showcasing two legendary properties in the neighborhood. Thank you to all the volunteers and organizers that made the day a success!
• Pumpkinpalooza will be held Sunday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the George Julian School 57, on the corner of Ritter and E. Washington. The PTSA will be selling pumpkins, mums, corn stalks, and more. Tours of the building will be available, and there will be games for kids. Proceeds go to support the PTSA.
• Scecina High School Advanced and Beginning Choirs will perform for the Sacred Music Concert at Little Flower Church on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome to listen. The church is located on Bosart and 13th St. in the Little Flower neighborhood.
• It seems early to talk about Halloween decor, but we are dealing with Irvington here, after all. This year’s House Decorating Contest registration is open online at irvingtonhalloween.com. This year’s categories include Rookie, Monster, Classic Halloween, and Scariest. There are rules, so be sure to read them. The contest is open to Irvington residents only.
• Indy Film Fest is sponsoring a Movie Night at the Garage, located at The Garage Food Hall in the Bottleworks District on Mass Ave. The movie will be on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9-11 p.m. and will feature Wayne’s World. Get there early to reserve your spot on the green on the North Patio, and grab a bite to eat before the show. Bring your own seating. Admission to the movie is free.
• Ash & Elm Cider Co. is currently in the running for USA Today’s Best Cidery competition. Visit 10best.usatoday.com under the travel section to vote for them (you can vote once a day) to bring home the national gold.
• Great to see that the Fall Creek Greenway has been completed that will connect downtown Indy to the Fort Benjamin Harrison Park. If you haven’t explored this gem of a greenway, you can connect with it near 56th and Emerson or at Skiles Test Park on Emerson Way.
• The Indianapolis Public Library will offer a Community Resource Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from noon-5 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair. At the fair, residents can find resources for employment, homelessness, medical screenings, mental health, substance abuse, and much more. The fair is free to attend and no pre-registration is needed.
• Now that autumn is officially here, just giving you a friendly reminder to have your furnace checked over and filters changed. Carbon monoxide is a silent, odorless killer, and if you have a gas furnace, you should have things checked before you have to switch it on.
