IRVINGTON — The Irvington Development Organization (IDO) and Historic Irvington Community Council (HICC) invite Irvington and surrounding neighbors to attend a presentation by Terrance Tallen, CEO of Tallen Capital Partners, LLC, specific to his plans for the redevelopment of Irvington Plaza. While Mr. Tallen has not yet purchased the property, he is taking the initial due diligence steps and community input at these beginning stages is an important part of the process. The meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Irvington United Methodist Church, 30 N. Audubon.Enter through the doors on the eastside of the Church.
Irvington Plaza is located at 6301 E. Washington St. It was first built in the 1950s and was a shopping destination for decades. However, shopping patterns changed and stores closed or moved away from the plaza beginning in the 1970s. Marsh supermarket was the last major retailer to occupy space in the Plaza, which was closed in 2017. Currently, only a few businesses remain, including Oak Tree Health and the Irvington Flea Market.
In February 2019, a national panel of urban development experts assessed the current state of Irvington Plaza and after days of interviews and other consideration, issued a report recommending mixed use redevelopment. The Urban Land Institute (ULI) also suggested redevelopment opportunities for the former Ford/Visteon plant on Brookville Rd. Early this year, the city established the Irvington Plaza/Brookville Tax Increment Financing area that will raise property taxes in order to reinvest those dollars into the area by upgrading or creating new public amenities.
The presentation will last approximately thirty minutes followed by a question-and-answer session. Questions may be submitted ahead of time at: info@irvingtoncouncil.com.
