• Jeannie Regan-Dinius, Director of Historic Preservation, Crown Hill Heritage Foundation will present New and Old Happenings at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 1:00 p.m. at the Genealogy Society of Marion County Library, 9370 E. Washington St. Jeannie will be here to discuss a combination of topics about Crown Hill Cemetery. These topics include: the cemetery in general, cemeteries that were moved there, a new project regarding scanning documents and a new phone app that will aid in locating a loved one. Admission is free and no advance registration is required for those attending the program in person.
• Eskenazi Health will hold a free health fair on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Eskenazi Health Center-Forest Manor, 3840 N. Sherman Dr. from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The fair includes free sports screenings for kids, COVID-19 vaccinations, and information about mental health, nutrition and much more.
• The Irvington Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social is on Sunday, Aug. 6 from noon-4 p.m. in front of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 E. University Ave. Downey Ave. will be closed from Washington St. south to University so that tables and the band can set up. There will be food trucks, vendors, and ice cream! Come on out and help a great cause.
• FoodCon will return to the Harrison Center from 6-9 p.m. in the courtyard, 1505 N. Delaware. If you are interested in honey bees, aquaponics, urban foraging, solar cooking, and all things food related, stop by. Inside the building, there are special art exhibits, ArtMix items for sale, and much more.
• Buck Creek Players will present Sordid Lives for two weekends: Aug. 4-6 and Aug. 11-13 at the Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and students. Visit www.buckcreekplayers.com for times and to reserve tickets.
• Indy Parks will close certain pools after Aug. 6, including Broad Ripple, Douglass, Ellenberger and Brookside. Splash pads are open through Labor Day.
• The Neighborhood Food Collective on the east side is low on pantry items. They need donations of peanut butter & jelly, canned proteins, soups, fruit cocktail, and other non-perishable items. Please drop off items at the Magick Candle, 6125 E. Washington St. Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The next giveaway will be on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 2-3 p.m. at the Irvington Plaza parking lot.
• The Mayor’s Bike Ride to the Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12 beginning at 10 a.m. beginning at the Canal Towpath to 52nd St. before turning south along the Monon. Individuals and families taking part in the Bike to the Fair event and get a free ticket to the fair, and park at the free secured bike racks located along the Monon through Gate 18.
