Local Resources for Food Insecurity

INDIANAPOLIS — The summer months are often difficult for people experiencing food insecurity. Resources may be in short supply as charities experience a cutback on donations, and children are home from school with no lunches.
If you are experiencing food insecurity, there are resources in the area that can help. This summer, there are free food giveaways of about one week of food catered to the size of your family. The locations include:
• John Marshall High School, 10101 East 38th Street, 10-2, 1st and 3rd Saturdays. Offers fruits, vegetables, cooked meats, milk, and cheeses.
• Church 52, just east of Franklin and Brookville Road. 10-1 2nd Saturday. Offers nonperishable foods and water.
• Good Shepherd Church, 2015 S. Arlington, 4th Saturday, 11-1. Offers nonperishable foods, water, eggs and meat when available.
• Hornet Park community Center, 5245 Hornet Ave. in Beech Grove. The Hornet pantry is open Wednesdays 4-6 p.m. Choose groceries and other items from the sharing tables and pick up a hot meal to take home. Anyone is welcome.
• Diversity Church Food Pantry, 101 E. Raymond St. Provides a food pantry called “Share Food Pantry” which is open on 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 5-7 p.m.
• Emmaus Food Pantry, 1209 Linden St. Available Monday-Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. Must have state issued ID and a piece of mail with current address on it. Call 317-474-0149 for more information. For Beech Grove residents.
• Servant’s Heart is Open, 5602 Elmwood Ave. #212, Thursdays 6:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. (Food Only) and Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (Food & Warehouse Items-Weather Permiting). Assistance is available for all persons residing in the Beech Grove community and adjacent southeast areas of Marion county within the following zip codes: 46107, 46203, 46217, 46225, 46227, 46237, 46239 and 46259.  You must be signed in 30 minutes prior to closing to receive service for that day. Furthermore, you must bring your pantry card, your ID, and proof of mail from within the last 30 days.
