Library Hosts 6th Annual Book Fest and Juneteenth Celebration

INDIANAPOLIS — The Center for Black Literature & Culture at Central Library invites the public to the 6th annual Book Fest and Juneteenth Celebration, taking place June 17, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. This event will celebrate the African American experience by bringing together poets, visual artists, storytellers, musicians, and book clubs to emphasize cultural literacy.
Attendees can meet local authors like the nationally celebrated Maurice Broaddus. Maurice Broaddus was hired by Marvel Comics and publisher Smart Pop to write “Black Panther: T’Challa Declassified,” which is scheduled to publish in January 2024.
There will also be a moderated conversation about the history of Juneteenth by Galveston native Fay Williams, Esq. Williams is a Family Law Attorney and a Civil Rights Activist.
Kids can enjoy a free 360 photobooth with DJ IN4RED and activities for kids in the Learning Curve.
In addition to the Juneteenth celebration, Courtyard Jam 2023 will take place on June 17 from noon until 4:00 p.m. in the East Courtyard at Central Library. Attendees can listen to the world-famous Freddie Fresh on the 1’s & 2`s and view the art exhibit Hip Hop Anthology Vol. 4,  curated by visual artist Gary Gee and influenced by hip-hop culture, music, fashion, film, literature, lifestyle, politics, social commentary, and the voice of the underdog.
