• All locations of the Indianapolis Public Library except the InfoZone will be closed Saturday-Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. The InfoZone at the Children’s Museum will be open Saturday, May 27, and Monday, May 29 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Indypl.org Web site will continue to be available to serve you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with thousands of downloadable and interactive books, audiobooks, magazines, and movies. As always, you can renew your materials online, by phone at 317-269-5222, or return them to any drop box located at a library.
• Cumberland Trails Day will be held Saturday, June 3 from 8 a.m.-noon at Lions Park, 301 Buck Creek Rd. The event is open to everyone, and includes lots of activities for kids, including storytime, a leisure group bike ride, and scavenger hunt. Check out the photography contest, and play pickleball in the park. This is great morning to find out how much Cumberland has to offer families.
• The World Arts Expo closes on Friday, May 26 at the International Marketplace from 2-6 p.m. Drop by to get a last glance at the many beautiful works without big crowds, and find out how to get one (or more) of the pieces for your home. The International Marketplace is located 4233 Lafayette Rd.
• The Annual Will Vawter Art Competition will be held on Saturday, June 3 from noon-3 p.m. and the exhibit will be June 9 from 6-9 p.m. with a reception at the Hancock County Arts Gallery, 20A North State St. in Greenfield. • The Phoenix Theatre will host Heathers: The Musical June 1-11 at various times. It is the story of Veronica Sawyers, a beautiful misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful clique in her high school. Tickets are $25 each; visit phoenixtheatre.org. The theater is located at 705 N. Illinois St.
• The Irvington Historical Society is holding a workshop for historic preservation for home and business owners in Irvington on Thursday, June 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. Learn about filing for improvement applications with the Historic Preservation Commission, and about applying for tax credits for historic buildings. The workshop is free.
• The Woodruff Place Flea Market is coming up on Saturday, June 3 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, June 4 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The market is one of the biggest neighborhood sales in Indy, and every year thousands show up to browse through the historic neighborhood. The sale will be on Woodruff Place East, West and Middle drives, and there will be vendors selling food and drink, plus entertainment. Start thinking now about where to park, because parking is limited in the area.
