INDIANAPOLIS — The Tillman H. Harpole American Legion Post 249, 2523 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., will dedicate their newly updated, refurbished outdoor Pavilion to Pvt Cathay Williams, the first and only black female Buffalo soldier when she entered Active Duty in 1866. She disguised herself as a male when she entered the U.S. Army as William Cathay in 1866. The nation-wide known non-profit organization ‘The Mission Continues’ has been refurbishing the pavilion and will finalize the project from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. with social hours at that time. The actual dedication will take place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. The public is invited, with the entire event free.
