• DPW has announced they are beginning Phase II of the Broad Ripple Ave. construction project. Beginning April 3, the road between College and Guilford will be closed until sometime in August so crews can install stormwater infrastructure. Sidewalks will be open to pedestrians. After Broad Ripple Ave. is completed, many of the side streets will be closed for stormwater installation. It is hoped that the improvements will prevent flooding.
• The John Boner Community Center will be holding a Community Baby Shower on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Union Apartment, 2407 E. Michigan St. This event is for expectant mothers and those who have children under the age of 2 on the near eastside. There will be refreshments, giveaways, and connections to resources. • The Marion County Public Health Dept. will offer a free 4 part diabetes education series online on April 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Topics include nutrition, exercise, medications, and community resources. Technical assistance is available. Individuals with pre-diabetes, diabetes, and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. • Do you or a loved one need to know more about the expungement process? The Office of Public Safety will hold a free Reentry Info Night on Saturday, March 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the IBEW Local Union 481, 1848 N. Meridian St. Suite 205.They will provide a meal plus two informative sessions about the barriers facing the reentry community and how to get help. This is a first come, first served event, and no registration is required.
• The 11th Annual Indiana Artisan Marketplace will be held Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, April 2 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., in the Ag/Hort building. Tickets are $10 at the door, and 14 and younger admitted free. Indiana artists, crafts people, and food creators will be on hand to show off their wares.
• The Tour Lawrence Bike Shares are open for the season, and available outside the new Heartland Film HQ at 8950 Otis Ave. and the Lawrence Government Center outside the Harrison State Park entrance, 9001 E. 59th St. Rent a bike and get free admission into the Fort Harrison State Park. • Recently, the Irvington Historical Society won a grant from the Indiana Historical Society to repair the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. When the weather was nice, crews were out removing the storm windows from the building. The storms will be recoated with UV filters to protect the exhibits inside. Currently, the Bona is hosting “Memories in a Quilt,” and “Posters of War & Peas.” Check out the premiere of a new exhibit, “Kin Hubbard: Irvington Wit” on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The Bona is located at 5350 E. University Ave.
