MOUNT VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation has selected Mrs. Brooke Tharp to be the Mt. Vernon High School principal. If approved by the MVCSC Board of Trustees on March 27, Mrs. Brooke Tharp will begin this new contract on July 1. Tharp’s educational career brings over 29 years to this leadership position with over 20 of them as a special education and English teacher.
Mrs. Tharp is currently serving her second year as the Mt. Vernon Middle School principal. During this tenure, she led the school through an expansion of Professional Learning Communities, the implementation of Trust-Based Relational Intervention, supported high-value instructional strategies and initiatives to retain staff and hire the best candidates.
Prior to being principal at Mt. Vernon Middle School, Tharp served as the Mt. Vernon High School assistant principal where she was heavily involved in the crisis prevention and safety team, as well as their Professional Learning Communities. Her interpersonal relationship skills and experience leading curriculum development, instructional practice, testing and scheduling were a few of the reasons she was selected for that position.
Tharp is currently pursuing her doctorate of Education Administration at Indiana State University. She also holds a master’s of education from Butler University and a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University. Tharp also holds an Indiana building-level administrator’s license and a professional educator’s license.
