LAWRENCE — According to contractors working on the improvements, Franklin Road is expected to be fully opened to traffic by Friday, March 17. The capital improvement project included a water main replacement and sanitary sewer main and manhole rehabilitation project.
The water main replacement project responsible for closing Franklin is now finished, and excavated areas filled with temporary asphalt until the final asphalt paving on Franklin is completed. The contractor is now working on additional phases of the project, including 46th St., Woodcroft, Elmhurst, McGuire Court, and Richardt streets. The project is likely to be completed this summer.
New sanitary sewer and mains have been laid in Franklin between 48th and 49th streets. The constractor will be completing the backfill and stone base to prepare for temporary asphalt. The remainder of this phase of the project will be completed this summer.
The City of Lawrence’s Department of Public Works has filed for a Community Crossings grant to rehabilitate Franklin from Pendleton Pike to 56th St. Until the grant comes through, the temporary road repairs will be maintained to be driveable.
