INDIANAPOLIS — City officials have announced plans to embark on an Indiana Avenue Certified Strategic Plan in partnership with Reclaim Indiana Avenue and the Urban Legacy Lands Initiative.
The City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) is releasing a Request for Expressions of Interests as it seeks proposals from interested design and planning firms. The Indiana Avenue Certified Strategic Plan will create a blueprint for cultural-focused investments, preservation of existing cultural legacy, economic development, and investment.
Indiana Avenue is one of the four diagonal thoroughfares of Indianapolis. From 1860 to the 1970s, “The Avenue” was the nexus of Black community, culture, and commerce for the city, state, and country. Urban renewal drove widespread displacement. DMD’s Certified Plan Program recognizes neighborhood and community organization plans that meet the City’s standard for robust community engagement and planning. Past Certified Plans include the SoIndy Quality of Life Plan and the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan.
