• Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, trash pickup will be on a sliding schedule. Thursday trash will be picked up Friday, and Friday’s on Saturday. Also remember that the deadline for leaf collection is Dec. 2, so get those leaves in bags and to the curb soon!
• There will be a Shop Small Saturday Art Market on Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Marine Corps League Detachment #89, 550 S. Audubon Rd. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Marine Barracks and there will be Toys for Tots boxes for new toy donations.
• Eastside Shop Small on Saturday, Nov. 26 will feature gifts and swag at many participating businesses for the first 10 customers. Check out Audrey’s Place at 3228 E. 10th St. at 9 a.m., Tim & Company’s Another Fine Mess at 2901 E. 10th, Beyond Barcodes Bookstore at 3139 E. 10th, plus 8th Day Distillery at 1125 Brookside Ave., Stomping Ground at 1625 Nowland Ave. and Kan-Kan just down the way. • Speaking of which, the Shop Small campaign has done a lot of good for small stores and service providers. Indianapolis, and especially the south and east sides, is a great place for entrepreneurs to find a home. However, the rising cost of doing business is really hitting some of our shopkeepers especially hard. Some have been notified that their rents are going up significantly, and they are getting those winter heating bills that are up as much as 15%. That is why it is especially important for everyone to support them as much as possible this year.
• The Southside Art League will hold its Super Christmas Sale with a special collection from their members will be exhibited Nov. 30-Dec. 31 at their Off Broadway Gallery, 299 E. Broadway in Greenwood. Come and enjoy the art work during regular hours Wed. – Sat. 11 a.m.– 3 p.m., Closed Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday.
• The Indianapolis Public Library launched the online Encyclopedia of Indianapolis a year ago, and over 118,000 users have accessed its pages from all over the world. It has become an indispensable resource for local history buffs.
• The City of Lawrence will host a tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 26 as part of their A Lawrence Christmas event from 2-8 p.m. They will officially open the skating rink from 2-8 p.m., and there will be a parade at 5:30 p.m. followed by a variety show and tree lighting at the Civic Plaza, 5710 Lawrence Village Parkway. The event is free and all ages are welcome.
• There have been troubling reports of car thefts as the weather turns colder and people start their cars in the driveway and leave for “just a minute.” Do no leave your car running unattended under any circumstances — in front of your house, in a parking lot, or parked outside a store.
