INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Propylaeum kicked off a year-long celebration of 100 years in its historic headquarters. The event began with remarks by Colette Pierce Burnette, CEO of Newfields, and Jennifer Pace Robinson, President and CEO of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
The Ribbon Tying Ceremony brought together community organizations that accredit their beginnings to Propylaeum’s founders, most notably May Wright Sewall. Among these legacy institutions are Newfields, The Children’s Museum, The Contemporary Club, the Herron School of Art and Design, The Indianapolis Council of Women, and The Indianapolis Woman’s Club.
The Propylaeum and its Delaware Street facility have been integral to the Indianapolis community. With roots in suffrage and activism, the 134-year-old Propylaeum is a place that connects and celebrates women. Organization Founders chose the Greek word “gateway” to signify that the organization would be the gateway for women’s leadership and culture in Indianapolis.
