IRVINGTON — The 76th Historic Irvington Halloween Festival is done, attracting over 85,000 celebrants from all walks of life to one of the largest Halloween festivals in the Midwest. A big thanks goes out to the many volunteers who work year-round to organize the festival to make it so successful.
The winners of several contests have been announced. The 2022 Halloween House Decorating Contest winners are: Rookie — 262 S. Audubon, Cemetery — 259 S. Burgess, Classic — 270 S. Audubon, Scariest — 318 S Webster, and Judges Favorite 5543 Julian.
The Costume Contest, judged after the parade, was won by the following: Ages 0-5 Handmade/Original — Ben & Brigham Elliot, Pop Culture —Avery Turner, Scary — Elliot Thilges. Ages 6-12: Handmade — Lincoln Duke, Pop Culture — Maggie Swan, Scary — Leia Sparks. Ages 13-17: Handmade/Original — Lorelei Oles, Pop Culture — Isabella Clair, Scary —Dominic Thatcher. Adults: Handmade/Original — Jessica Fischer, Pop Culture —Anna Rice, Scary — Alexandra Ray. Groups: Handmade/Original — Ended Lewis, Pop Culture — St. Laurant Family, Scary —Christy Crabtree. The Writing Contest Winners were: Grade School — Leia Sparks / Our Lady of Lourdes “My House on Hawthorne Lane”; Middle School, Bella Groothuis / Sidener Academy “Let Go”; High School, Natalee Darzentas / Scecina “I Can’t See You,” and Adult James M. Johnson “SEEKING RETRIBUTION.”
