• East District IMPD will offer an Active Shooter presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at headquarters, 201 N. Shadeland Ave. The free presentation offers strategies and guidance for surviving an active shooter situation such as what happened at Columbine High School and the FedEx facility in Indianapolis.
• Westminster Neighborhood Services is hosting their first ever Labor of Love, Maternal Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 2325 E. New York St. Parents and expecting parents are welcome to join WNS for information on resources, diapers, health screenings, and more. Westminster serves the neighborhoods from downtown to Emerson, as far south as Washington St. and north to I-70.
• Please join the Indy Parks staff and consultants to discuss the playground renovations at Brookside, Brookside Memorial Grove, Forest Manor, John Ed, Oscar Charleston and Washington Parks. There will be two meetings held. The first meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at Brookside Park Family Center, 3500 Brookside Parkway S. Dr. at 6:30 p.m. The second opportunity to participate will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6:30 at Washington Park Family Center, 3130 E. 30th St.
• New Bethel Baptist Church, 8936 Southeastern Ave. will hold a Fall Harvest Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The show has a “Fast and Furious” theme, and will include lots of cars and awards. • Bard Fest will present George Brant’s new comedy, Into the Breeches, as the finale of their 2022 season. The play is set in 1942, when women must take over the men’s roles since they are at war. The show will be on Nov. 4-6 and Nov. 11-13 at Art for Lawrence’s Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Tickets are available online for $20 plus service fee at artsforlawrence.org
• There will be a Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park Clean-up on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m.-noon at the park, 2300 Dequincy St. The event is sponsored by Reconnecting to Our Waterways. • On Thursday, Oct. 27, Bootscoot USA will present a Halloween Honky-Tonk Dance Party on Monument Circle from 6-9 p.m. This is an all-ages event, and costumes are encouraged. There will be line dancing instruction, plus a chance to try out your new moves. Admission is free.
• The Kiwanis Club is hosting the Second Annual Pumpkin Smash on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2-6 p.m. at Half Liter Beer & BBQ Hall, 5301 Winthrop Ave. in Broad Ripple. There will be free activities for kids like pumpkin painting, plus a costume parade. The hall is donating a portion of sales from food to the Kiwanis Club of Broad Ripple to support STEAM school projects throughout the city.
