INDIANAPOLIS — As the weather turns blustery and Halloween approaches, many people look for indoor amusements. First Friday, established many years ago, is still going strong, and is a great showcase for the variety of arts and artists in Indianapolis. Unless noted, the venues are open to the public from 6-9 p.m.
Spooky, featuring paintings by Emma Overman, opens Friday, Oct. 7, at the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware. The show is a “mildly haunted display of gentle spirits and seasonal friendS in the Speck Gallery. A series of acrylic paintings in a mildly haunted display of gentle spirits and seasonal friends celebrating the wonders of autumn. This show will be fun for all ages.
Also at the Harrison Center, “Limbo” by Courtland Blade will be showing in the City Gallery. This is a collection of oil paintings exploring urban Indianapolis in both a universal and personal perspective in this time of limbo.
Don’t miss “The Agony and The Ecstasy: Act One” featuring paintings by Quincy Owens in the Sky Gallery and sculptures by Owens+Crawley on the rooftop deck. IU Health CompleteLife Art Show 2022: Finding Calm in the Chaos will be in the Underground Gallery. This artwork was created by the caregivers, patients, and staff of the IU Health Simon Cancer Center.
The Third Annual Vining Gallery Invitational will be held Friday, Oct. 7 with over 100 paintings on display at the Vining Gallery, 2620 E. 10th St. Featured artists include Mary Ann Davis, MJ Coyle, Kyle Ragsdale, Rita Spalding, and Justin Vining.
The Irvington First Friday goes from 5-10 p.m. and encompasses all of the commercial corridor on East Washington St. and the Bonna Ave. area. Indy Craftivist & Mads Ave will be at Hampton Designs Studio & Shop. Creative Teresa Barber Gooldy will be at Josephine’s in Irvington and Art Gallery at Beth Clary Fine Art will be open. Jockamo’s, Black Acre, and the Med will be open as well.
Several art studios at the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave. will be open for First Friday. Look for Anthony Armstrong’s large scale photographs in the South Studios. Circle City Metalworks will have a sampling of products for sale from their large product line in the back corridor of the South Studios.
