INDIANAPOLIS — In person meetings with Indianapolis Public School officials will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 from noon-1:30 p.m. at Indianapolis Public Library E. 38th St. Branch, 5420 E. 38th St. and on Monday, Oct. 17 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Arsenal Tech High School, 1500 E. Michigan St. Meetings are open to the public. Refreshments and childcare will be provided for the meetings.
The meetings are to learn about the new IPS initiative of “Rebuilding Stronger.” IPS is proposing the closure of some schools, and consolidating others to better utilize the resources of the district. They are revising the district zones to four, with between 12 and 15 schools per zone. Historic Howe and Broad Ripple will re-open as an International Baccalaureate Middle School serving grades 6-8 beginning in the 2024-25 school year, while making significant improvements to the athletic fields and security at the buildings.
