Applause! Sept. 2-8

• Labor Day weekend is upon us, and that means that all state, local, and federal offices will be closed on September 5. Most branches of the Indianapolis Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday except the InfoZone, which will be open both days from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Weekly View office will be closed Monday so we can spend time with our families and friends.
• Bittersweet bakery recently announced that they are closing their shop for good. After the challenges of the pandemic and some health setbacks, Laura Johnston felt it was for the best to close the business. They may still announce a weekend sale in the near future to say farewell and offer some final treats to their loyal customers. The little shop in Irvington will be missed.
• We’re very sorry to hear than Kevin Flaherty, one of the founders of eastside Ball Park Pizza on E. 10th St., passed away recently. The rest of the family will keep the location open. Ball Park Pizza recently celebrated their 28th anniversary.
• Schedule your fall hayrides now before the dates are all gone! Southeastway Park on Carroll Rd. offers group rates for the experience. Register by calling their office at 317-327-4834.
• National Cinema Day will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 3 at over 3,000 movie theaters in the U.S. The AMC chain is one of them offering the cheap tickets all day long. If you haven’t been to a movie in a theater in a while, this might be a good time to venture out and see something.
• First Friday events will be taking place on Sept. 2 from 6-9 p.m. at many locations throughout the city. Check out Rabble Coffee, 2119 E. 10th St., which will feature Larry North’s art, sculptural furniture by North Design, and much more. Irvington will be busy with Drag Night at Hampton Designs at 5515 E. Washington St., music behind the Irving Theatre on the same block, Kristy Quinn at Josephine’s and the Beth Clary Fine Art gallery open for the evening.
• This is the last weekend for the IndyFringe Festival, which runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The last shows will be at 7 p.m. and you need to reserve tickets in advance online at indyfringe.org. Check out Panel Show with Mark Cashwell on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 9 p.m. or Sept. 3 at 10:30 p.m. at the District Theatre, or Oh Look, It’s Magic! ADHD Advocacy magic show on Sept. 1 at 9 p.m., Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m., or Sept. 3 at noon at the Athenaeum. Tickets are $20 each, and the proceeds go to the actual artists.
• An east side Coffee with a Cop is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 9-10 a.m. at the PANA Donuts at 10745 E. Washington St. East District police officers will be on hand to answer questions and listen to concerns.

As we celebrate Labor Day, we’d like to thank our contributors and our newspaper carriers for all their hard work over the years. We are truly blessed by the many dedicated people who make the newspaper happen every week!
