INDIANAPOLIS — State Representative Blake Johnson (D-Indianapolis) recently announced Victor Chukwuocha as the winner of the 2022 Mary Moriarty Adams Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to an Eastside student who has demonstrated academic achievement, community engagement and volunteerism during their time in high school. Chukwuocha, who graduated earlier this month from Purdue Polytechnic High School (PPHS), will attend Purdue University to major in integrated business and engineering and minor in political science.
“Victor is an outstanding student and leader who has shown an incredible commitment to serving others,” Johnson said. “Throughout his time at PPHS, he volunteered for the athletics department, served as the sole editor of the school’s sports website, and took on multiple community-based passion projects.”
The Mary Moriarty Adams Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the longtime Indianapolis City-County Councilor, who passed in 2018 after nearly three decades of public service. Johnson and his wife, Natalie Clayton, fund the scholarship for graduating seniors in Indiana House District 100 who exemplify Adams’ strong commitment to public and community service.
“Natalie and I are honored to celebrate Victor’s achievements and to encourage his future plans of becoming an engineer,” Johnson added. “Victor’s uncommon commitment to serving others is truly inspiring. We hope that more young leaders will follow in his footsteps and can’t wait to see his promising future unfold.”
