• Near Eastside Safety Summit will be held Thursday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m. at the John Boner Neighborhood Center, 2236 E. 10th St. Want to learn more about safety in your neighborhood? Mark your calendar to hear about public safety work being done by partners and residents on the Near Eastside and how you can get involved. • The Garfield Park Arts and Music Festival will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 4-10 p.m. at the Amphitheater and grounds at the park, located at 2450 Conservatory Dr. Admission is free. Music from local, diverse groups, including Dana Skully and the Tiger Sharks, Wife Patrol, and Airport People, plus lots of vendors and beer by Garfield Park Brewery. This is an all-ages event, except for beer purchases.
• Arts for Lawrence is hosting Classical Sundays at the Fort, beginning with Sunday, June 26 from 2-4 p.m. This free concert series runs every other week, featuring local classical artists and the symphony. Sunday’s show features Matthew Bell, the Boogie Woogie Kid. It will be held at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave.
• Save the date: Post Road Christian Church, 1112 N. Post Rd., will host a Neighborhood Fireworks and Carnival on Saturday, July 2 at 4 p.m. The parking lot opens at 4 p.m. and the family is invited to games, snow cones, and lots more. Bring your own chairs and enjoy the kid’s carnival from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and capped off with a fireworks display.
• Have you donated your books yet? Better get a move-on, because the Benton House Book Sale will be held July 15-17. Donations of books (no encyclopedias, please) are still needed. You can drop off the books at the Benton House, 312 S. Downey, in the porch box in the back, or e-mail booksale@thebentonhouse.org to arrange for pickup of larger donations.
• Indiana Family and Social Services is conducting a survey of addiction recovery resources, and needs everyone’s help. If you have been affected by addiction, text “RECOVERY” to 833-638-3784 to answer some questions that will help the state better allocate resources to those who need services. All Hoosiers are encouraged to participate in the survey.
• Reserve tickets now for the Independence Day Social at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 N. Delaware St., on Monday, July 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. It’s a patriotic festival for the whole family, with tours, yard games, and music. Registration is required, but tickets are free because space is limited. Visit bhpsite.org/events/independence-day-social to snag a reservation.
