IRVINGTON — The Irvington Garden Club’s award-winning Farmers Market will begin Sunday, June 12 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. The monthly market is held on the second Sunday of the month through October.
The market features over 80 vendors with produce, plants, food, handcrafted items, and much more. There are several nonprofits and clubs that set up at the market to provide information.
When the farmers market began over 20 years ago, there were just a few vendors, but it has grown to be one of the most anticipated farmers markets in Indianapolis.
In addition, the Garden Club’s Garden Tour will take place Sunday, June 26 from 1-5 p.m. More information will be available about the tour in the weeks ahead.
The Irvington Garden Club was founded in 1999 and has been an active force in the community with tree plantings, beautification projects, and education about native plants. The club meets the last Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at various member’s homes in the summer months, or at the Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave. The club is responsible for the beautiful historic gardens at the Benton House, 312 S. Downey Ave. and the maintenance of the Kile Oak at 5939 Beechwood Ave. — one of the oldest trees in Indiana.
There will also be an artist’s gathering on Sunday, June 12 from noon-3 p.m. at Dee Banta’s home, 5295 E. Pleasant Run Pkwy. S. Drive, just south of Ellenberger. The gathering features seven local artists and one baker. Swing by there after hitting the market.
