• Franklin Township resident Hellen Guthrie will celebrate her 105th birthday on Saturday, April 30. She is quite possibly the oldest living World War II Navy veteran in Indiana. She served in the WAVES during the war. Happy Birthday Hellen!
• IMPD will hold a blood drive in memory of fallen officer Breann Leath, who was killed in the line of duty on April 9, 2020. The drive will be held Friday, April 29 from noon-6 p.m. Register online at redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.
• Indy Parks is hosting an Earth Day Cleanup of all Indy Parks on Friday, April 22. Visit any Indy Parks property and go to the family center to pick up trash bags and gloves and help clean up our parks!
• Congratulations to the Purdue Polytechnic suPURDUEper Robotics team for their great showing at the state competition. They have been invited to the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championships in Houston, Texas. They need some help paying for the entry fees and travel costs and are accepting donations online at pphspurdue.networkforgood.com and search for the Andy Mundell fundraiser.
• Indy Parks is ramping up for outdoor weather and really needs lifeguards, ticket takers, and other workers! These are great jobs that pay from $11-$14.50 per hour. Visit parks.indy.gov for more information and to apply.
• Congratulations to Adam Hampton, owner of Hampton Designs Studio and Shop (5515 E. Washington St.), who was selected by Facebook and Instagram to attend their Meta Boost Gathering 2022 Conference in May. He will be in Washington D.C. to meet with policy makers to boost small businesses, plus get to work with other top business leaders.
• Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is always looking for helpers on neighborhood tree plantings and clean-ups in the city. Upcoming projects include North Irvington tree plantings on May 7 at 9 a.m. (North Layman, Leslie, Audubon area), Arsenal Park and Eway Foundation clean-up and tree planting on Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m. (1201 E. 46th St.). • Families with youngster are invited to celebrate Dia del Nino at Be My Neighbor Day on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Central Library. There will be storytimes in English and Spanish, family yoga, and an appearance by Daniel Tiger and Katarina Kittycat from PBS Kids. There will be lots of activities and giveaways for every child. The library is located at 40 E. St. Clair. Everything is free.
• The Safe Summer programs will get underway June 10-Aug. 5 for school-age kids. The programs will be held at Garfield, Riverside and Washington Parks.
