INDIANAPOLIS — Eight community-based organizations were awarded grants with matching funding through the Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership for projects they have submitted to improve pedestrian and roadway infrastructure in the public right-of-way.
In November 2021, Indy DPW announced it would begin accepting applications from community-based organizations for the fifth consecutive year of the Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership (INIP) program. This program allows applicants to submit ideas and a funding match for localized improvement projects in the public right-of-way benefitting all Indy residents. Submissions often include upgrades to roads, sidewalks, multi-use paths, and bridges.
Including the selection of projects for 2022, nearly $12 million will have been allocated for 53 neighborhood infrastructure projects as submitted by Indy’s community-based organizations since the INIP program’s inception in 2018.
Among the awards are the Oaks Academy located at 1301 E. 16th St. The school’s infrastructure project includes new curbs to go with the new sidewalks. Other organizations include the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation, Hearthstone HOA, Misty Woods HOA in Franklin Township, Pacers Bikeshare, IUPUI, Greenbriar Neighborhood Association, and Southeast Neighborhood Development Inc. (SEND) for new sidewalks to be built on the north side of Hanna Avenue to support Hanna Commons, a supportive housing development currently in development near Keystone and Hanna avenues.
