• The east side lost a treasure recently with the passing of Norman Pace at the age of 83. Norm was well known in the community, graduating from Scecina, marrying his beloved Mildred at Little Flower, and working at the Naval Avionics Center. He was the founder and president of the Far Eastside Neighborhood Association and the Warren Township Development Association, and was involved in many community concerns. He was put to rest on April 5 after a long and active life.
• Congratulations to Alexandra Tauriainen of Lawrence Central for receiving an honorable mention in the state’s 2022 STEM Team in Technology. Katie Essex of Southport HS also earned an honorable mention in Engineering.
• The final Irvington Market at the Irvington Historical Society will be held Sunday, April 10 from noon-3 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. 5350 E. University Ave. Twenty vendors will be on hand, offering arts and crafts, vintage items, baked goods, pet treats, and much more. While you’re there, browse around the exhibit space. Admission is free, although a donation to the Irvington Historical Society would be welcome.
• The BMV will be closed on Good Friday, April 15 in observance of the holiday. Branches will resume regular service hours on Saturday, April 16.
• The Indianapolis Public Library will be closed on Sunday, April 17 for Easter. Regular hours will resume Monday, April 18.
• One of the best secrets in town seems to be the Wednesday Fresh Market every Wednesday from 4:00-6:30 p.m. around the corner from the Irving Theater, 5505 E. Washington St. Local vendors with baked goods, meats, and much more are on hand every week.
• “Fruit Flies Like a Banana,” a production of the Fourth Wall, puts a vaudevillian twist on chamber music with their unique show that is always a favorite at IndyFringe. They will be at the District Theatre Mainstage, 627 Mass Ave. on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for individuals, or $50 for the family. • Heads up! There will be a Lawrence Community Shred-It and Electronic Recycling Day on Saturday, April 23 at Belzer Middle School, hosted by the City of Lawrence Police Dept. A $5 donation is requested per shredding box and $20 fee for all TV and computer monitors. Donations will benefit Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. Belzer Middle School is located at 7555 E. 56th St. in Lawrence.
• Now that we’ve begun emerging from our hibernation, and getting out to do more, we need to exercise some patience and understanding. There are labor shortages in big and small businesses, and long lines and delays, and the price of things is going up. Please don’t take it out on the hard-working employees behind the counter. Let’s all just be kind.
