• Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is seeking volunteers for several upcoming tree planting events, including a couple on the east side. They will do a tree planting at Euclid and Colorado on Saturday, March 19 at 9 a.m. and Young Ave. near Christian Park Saturday, March 12 at 9 a.m. To register, visit kibi.org and go to the “Volunteer” tab. They provide the equipment and guidance.
• Congratulations to Laundry & More in Lawrence for three years of service in the community! This amazing organization helps people in need wash their clothes and bedding, plus provide connections to community resources. They do this every Tuesday between 10 a.m.-noon at Post Road Laundry, 4212 N. Post Rd.
• Applications are open for the statewide On My Way Pre-K program for the 2022-23 school year. Grants may be available to qualified families to enroll their children in high quality pre-K schools. Children must be 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2022 and plan to start kindergarten in the 2023-24 year. Visit OnMyWayPreK.org for more information and to fill out a grant application. Please call 800-299-1627 for assistance from an early learning referral specialist or for more information on the program.
• Save the date: The Irvington Community Council monthly meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 S. Johnson. The meeting will be live streamed and recorded for those who can’t attend. If you have a specific question or agenda item request, please send an e-mail to info@irvingtoncouncil.com.
• First Friday events will be held in person at Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Dr. Check out the many open galleries and artist studios, plus the businesses that make the huge complex home from 6-9 p.m. The Harrison Center for the Arts at 1505 N. Delaware will feature new works by Kate Oberreich, plus a fashion collection by Emily Gartner inspired by Indiana Landmarks and female subjects. For art lovers looking for something more edgy, check out the Murphy Arts Center second floor for several open galleries and shops from 6-whenever they want to close. The Murphy is located at 1043 Virginia Ave. Irvington celebrates First Friday at Hampton Designs at 5515 E. Washington hosted by Lapis Lily Market, music at the Irving Theatre at 7 p.m. with Delta Duo, Gene Deer and others, and other shops open for business.
• The Beech Grove Common Council will hold its monthly public meeting on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, 806 Main St.
• Cumberland is seeking nominees for its Honor Park Ceremonies this year. If you know of a Cumberland resident who has distinguished themselves through service to the community or noteworthy accomplishments (cannot be a sitting government official), visit town.cumberland.in.us for an application. There will be two ceremonies this year, on May 1 and on Oct. 2 since there were no ceremonies due to the pandemic.
