New Chief of Police Named in Lawrence

LAWRENCE — The City of Lawrence has a new Chief of Police, Gary Woodruff. He has been the interim Police Chief since the retirement of Chief David Hofmann.
Chief Woodruff is a graduate of Arlington High School, and enlisted in 1983 in the U.S. Army Military Police, where he served in Europe and at Fort Benjamin Harrison when assigned to the Army Criminal Investigations Division.
He served with the Frankfort Police Department from 1986-2000, when he transferred to Lawrence. He has served as the Deputy Police Chief, Investigations Division Commander, and the department’s Public Information Officer.
