Applause!: Feb. 18-24

• The first Irvington Historical Society monthly market on Feb. 13 was a resounding success! About 20 local vendors with great products were on hand, and there was a great turnout. Looking forward to next month’s market at the Bona Thompson Center, which will be held on Sunday, March 13 from noon-3 p.m.
• Nehemiah Bible Church (1035 N. Oxford St. 46201) will host a monthly food pantry at their church to serve their neighbors in the 46201 zip code. At 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. every fourth Saturday, they welcome you to their church. Please remain in your vehicle and meet in the parking lot of School 54 (3150 E 10th St). To avoid creating traffic, volunteers will be there to then direct you to the church. To keep everyone safe and healthy, there will be no contact. Volunteers will place food boxes in the back seat of your car. You must bring identification showing proof of your home zip code.
• The Sean Cowdrey Health & Wellness Complex Athletic Field, home to Phalen Leadership Academies on Indianapolis’ Far Eastside, will install a new natural grass field, thanks in part to a $100,000 grant from the Indianapolis Colts and the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program. This marks the 11th Indianapolis field that will have been improved. Previous fields include Douglas Park, Gustafson Park, Lutheran High School Football Field, Christian Park, and the Legacy Recreation Center/Arsenal Tech High School.
• Growing Places is accepting applications for their summer youth farming apprenticeship program, Young Grow Getters. This is a paid six-week program for young people 15-18 and provides hands-on training. Applications close on April 30. Visit growingplacesindy.org/younggrowgetters.
• Garfield Park Conservatory will host its annual Spring Bulb Show March 4-11 at the 2505 Conservatory Dr. Hours are Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $12 per family (2 adults max. per family). Bulbs on display go on sale on Sat., March 12 at 10 a.m.
• Are you looking for a great pet? Cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs will be up for adoption at Animal Care Services on Saturday, Feb. 19 from noon-5 p.m. at their Season of Love adoption event. Weather permitting, dog adoptions will take place outside and cats inside. There will be a limited supply of goodie bags available. The shelter is at 2600 S. Harding St.
• Adam Riviere and friends will take you on an around the world musical adventure as he presents instruments and origin stories from all over on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Arts for Lawrence Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors and students.
