• Check out the Hampton Designs Drag Show on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. This is an all-ages show, and everyone is welcome. Hampton’s is at 5515 E. Washington St., the storefront at the Lodge on the corner of Johnson and Washington in Irvington.
• New York St. will be closed between Davidson and Pine until Feb. 19. The detour follows Ohio St. The recent bad weather has also extended a few local street closures, including 10th St. until March 14, and Market St. until Feb. 18.
• IPS School #57 has created a fundraiser to make improvements to their playground in memory of Hannah, who was killed crossing the street at Ritter and E. Washington St. Her mother and a crossing guard were also injured. She loved playing at the playground on school grounds. To make a contribution, visit ipsfund.org and search for Honor Hannah.
• The new Irvington Market will be held the second Sunday of the month throughout spring beginning Feb. 13 from noon-3 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 E. University Ave. in Irvington. There will be 20 local vendors with personal care products, arts and crafts, and lots of great stuff (and just in time for Valentine’s Day). Admission is free.
• Beech Grove is hosting a free appliance drop-off, document shredding, and medicine disposal event at City Hall (806 Main St.) on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m.-noon. The event is free to Beech Grove residents.
• The multi-talented Paige Scott will be back with a cabaret, “You’re Gonna Be So Mad . . . I Can’t Wait,” on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. General admission is $20, seniors $15. Visit artsforlawrence.org for more information and to order tickets.
• The Irvington Historical Society is currently showing “In Abstract,” an exhibit of abstract art from its collection. You can see is Saturday, Feb. 12 from 1-4 p.m. or during the Market (see earlier item) on Sunday, Feb. 13 from noon-4 p.m. The exhibit will be up until April 24.
• Winterfest at the Indiana State Fairgrounds will be held Saturday, Feb. 12 from 2-6 p.m. This is one of the biggest beer events in Central Indiana, with over 95 breweries represented. General admission tickets are $40 in advance online (drinkin.beer/13th-annual-winterfest) until Feb. 11 or $50 at the door. Proceeds go to support the Brewers of Indiana Guild. Many local breweries will be there, so get your tickets now!
