INDIANAPOLIS — State Representative Blake Johnson (D-Indianapolis) today announced his office is accepting applications for the 2022 Mary Moriarty Adams Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior who lives or goes to school in House District 100, which includes portions of downtown Indianapolis and the city’s Eastside. All applications are due by April 15, 2022.
Johnson and his wife, Natalie Clayton, began the scholarship in 2016 to recognize the contributions of young leaders in their community. The scholarship was later renamed to honor former Indianapolis City-County Councilor Mary Moriarty Adams, who served the city of Indianapolis for more than three decades before passing away in 2018.
“It continues to be an honor to present the Mary Moriarty Adams Memorial Scholarship to a student who is making a difference in our city,” Johnson said.
The $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year to an Eastside student who displays a history of academic achievement, community service and volunteerism throughout their time in high school. Last year’s recipient was Jairo Garcia-Cruz, who earned the scholarship in recognition of his community service to food banks and local food security organizations.
