INDIANAPOLIS — First published in print in 1994, the Encyclopedia of Indianapolis has been expanded and updated and is available in a digital format. The free-access, Web-based encyclopedia has been created and edited by the Polis Center at IUPUI in partnership with The Indianapolis Public Library, and is available at indyencyclopedia.org.
The updated Encyclopedia of Indianapolis will provide comprehensive social, cultural, economic, historical, political, and physical descriptions of Indianapolis while shedding light on the events, people, and organizations that shaped the city’s past and present. Visitors can research historical figures such as Madam C. J. Walker, learn what Indianapolis was like during World War II, find timelines of current events, and much more. Over 1900 entries have been curated by subject-matter experts who will continue to add and update content as time goes on.
