Applause!: Nov. 12-18

• The Student Fellowship for Blacks, Inc. has awarded over $196,000 over the last 42 years for individuals attending Historically Black Colleges majoring in specific subjects. This year, they are seeking donors and applicants. Visit studentfellowshipforblacks.org for more information about the process. Last year, the SFB awarded $1,000 to Sandra T.R. Jones, who was attending Martin University and majoring in Business Administration.
• Arts for Lawrence continues its eclectic programming with Circle City Tap’s production of “One Us” Nov. 20-21 at Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. There will be three performances of the updated 2017 IndyFringe hit, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20-$25 and available in advance at artsforlawrence.org
• Also at Theater at the Fort, November is the month to learn Urban Line Dancing, with classes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Urban line dance moves to R & B, rap, and other urban forms of music, and is great exercise! Classes are free and held with Triple Take Productions.
• Have you got your free COVID-19 home test kits yet? The Marion County Health Dept. is offering individuals in eligible areas (much of the east side) free, rapid at-home testing kits. You can get them sent to your house or you can pick them up locally. Visit covidhometestindy.org for more information and to register for your free tests.
• This is the weekend for the Our Lady of Lourdes Chili Cookoff, The annual event will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 from 11:30-4:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes parking lot on the corner of Downey Ave. and East Washington St. Tickets are $5 per person, and you get tastings of all the chili offerings and a chance to vote for “best in show.” There will also be a raffle and live entertainment. Proceeds go to support the Our Lady of Lourdes school. This is a highly competitive cook-off with many styles of chili.
• Registration is open for the Crossover Winter K-8th Grade Basketball League at Post Road Christian Church, 1112 N. Post Rd. The league is for boys and girls Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Practices and games are held on Saturdays beginning Jan. 15. Register online at prcc.churchcenter.com
• The Marion County Fairgrounds hosts the MacAllister Machinery Gift of Lights from Nov.13-Jan. 2. Drive through the exhibit and beautiful holiday lights from 6-10 p.m. for only $30 per car load. Rumor has it Santa hangs out there too. The fairgrounds are located at 7300 E. Troy Ave.
• Lapis Lily and Hampton Designs are hosting a Drag and Pop-Up Market Thursday, Nov. 18 from 2-11 p.m. at the Irvington Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. Tickets are $7 each to the drag show at 8 p.m. Swing by and get a start on your holiday shopping.
