INDIANAPOLIS — Plans for the third phase of Circle City Forward, a $25 million investment in the City’s trails and greenway system, were recently announced.
Several projects will only have design costs funded through this initiative, but Indy DPW plans to leverage this funding to make trail projects more attractive to receive state and federal level grant funding. On the east side, several projects are slated for exploration:
• Pleasant Run Trail Extension – Design and construction
• Pleasant Run Trail Rehab – Design and construction
• Pogue’s Run Trail – Design and construction
• Pogue’s Run Trail/Monon Trail Connector – Design
In the past five years, Indy DPW will have built or rehabilitated roughly 55.5 miles of trails and multimodal infrastructure across the Indianapolis system. In the 2022 construction season alone, DPW plans to build another 8.6 miles and rehab an additional 10.5 miles of trails and multimodal infrastructure. With a $25 million fiscal ordinance in place to fund the design in 2022 of many additional connectivity projects, the 2023-2025 construction seasons are anticipated to see a grand total of 51.4 miles of built or rebuilt and active transportation infrastructure.
