IndyRent Program Helps Thousands with Payments

INDIANAPOLIS — In 2020, the IndyRent program was launched in partnership with the City of Indianapolis. Over the past year, they have awarded more than $52 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding in rental payments. And the program is still going strong a year later.
Eligible households are currently able to receive up to 3 months of rental assistance paid. When the program launched, 10,000 applications were submitted in the first three days, confirming a need for such a program. All federal funds go directly to rental payments, a generous grant from Lilly Endowment covers the program operating and technology costs.
To date in 2021, they have already awarded more than $18 million in rental assistance to more than 6,000 households since April. They expect to award $50 million by the end of the year.
IndyRent brought together 13 nonprofits who process applications which streamlined and unified the process across Marion County. Partners include Community Alliance of the Far Eastside (CAFE), Indianapolis Urban League, John Boner Neighborhood Centers, and Southeast Community Services.
