Virtual Talk Offers Perspective on Revitalization of Ford Assembly Plant

INDIANAPOLIS — Today a mix of retail, office and residential space occupies the former Ford Assembly Building at 1301 E. Washington St. on Indianapolis’s near eastside. But just five years ago, Indiana Landmarks named the 1914 structure one of the 10 Most Endangered Places in the state.
The revitalization of the one-time car factory took an assembly line of contractors, consultants, and funding sources. On May 27, members of the team that restored the landmark discuss the preservation challenges of converting the 1914 manufacturing building into a modern mixed-use development.
During an online talk, Logan Cook of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates; J. B. Curry of TWG Development; and Julie Zent of RATIO Design share stories and a virtual behind-the-scenes look at the engineering and planning process that steered the building from endangered status onto the road to success.
The talk will be held May 27 at 6 p.m. online. The cost is $7 per person; free for Indiana Landmarks members. To get tickets, visit fordtalk21.eventbrite.com, or by calling 317-639-4534. The talk is hosted by Indiana Landmarks.
