INDIANAPOLIS — The Harrison Center will once again partner with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to promote Porch Party Indy and the Indianapolis 500. Two things are new this year:
• The Spectacle of Homes, a reverse parade on May 29 that features porches/houses as “floats”. Enter your house or neighborhood for a special Indy 500 visit at harrisoncenter.org/500-spectacle-of-homes.
• Porch Party Classes to guide guests through how to host their own Porch Party. More information and tickets can be found at harrisoncenter.org/porch.
The Harrison Center, a community-based nonprofit organization, has been hosting Porch Parties, or “porching,” since 2014. Porch Party Indy encourages people to gather on their porches with friends and neighbors, to share food and drink and to help cultivate a sense of community in our urban neighborhoods. Through a partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Porch Party movement grew to include the entire state of Indiana.
During COVID, Indianapolis residents continued to connect through #SocialDistancePorching, as a safe way to connect and practice their “hey neighbor” wave.
Start planning your Indy 500 porch decorations and porch parties now. Social distance porching is safe and helps cultivate a sense of community.
