INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Education today released the names of the 2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools, District Sustainability Awardees, and Postsecondary Sustainability Awardees.
In Indiana, Paramount Brookside, a K-8 public charter school in Indianapolis, and Discovery Charter School in Porter were named U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools.
Paramount Brookside, located at 3020 Nowland Ave. in the Brookside neighborhood, features green technologies throughout the school, and has an extensive farming program for students that includes dairy goats and beekeeping. Their goats milk cheese is made on site and is sold throughout the city.
The honorees were named from a pool of candidates nominated by 20 states. The selectees include 24 public schools — among them, five charter schools and one magnet school — as well as three nonpublic schools. Over half of the 2021 honorees are in communities where over 40 percent of the student body are eligible for free and reduced lunch.
