INDIANAPOLIS — The City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development is giving Indy residents a chance to step back into the classroom, at no cost, with People’s Planning Academy: 200 Years of Planning. Funded by Indiana Humanities and in partnership with the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center, this year’s People’s Planning Academy will explain the city planning process. The 8-week course, which 75 residents will have the opportunity to participate in, will take place entirely virtually and run from May 6 to June 24.
As this year’s series takes place during the City of Indianapolis’ Bicentennial Celebration, People’s Planning Academy will explore how policy and history have shaped the built environment in our municipality over the last 200 years. This year’s curriculum will include the history of waterways, Indy’s transit past and present, historical housing discrimination in Black communities, and more. Participants will pursue a project over the topic of their choosing and have the opportunity to present their work at the first-of-its-kind People’s Planning Academy Exhibition on June 24.
Applications for the People’s Planning Academy are now open through April 23 at indy.gov/ppa.
