INDIANAPOLIS — Lilly Endowment has approved 28 grants totaling $93.6 million to fund programs focused on helping Indianapolis residents living in or near poverty find a way to economic self-sufficiency. Grants will support organizations that work with community partners and local employers.
Some of the grantees and their projects are:
• Central Indiana Community Foundation, for the development of a new program, Build Yourself Plus: Good People, Good Jobs, Good Careers. The program will help low-income individuals with job training in the construction industry.
• Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Training, for the new program HomeNow Indy Initiative. CHIP will work with others to expand housing availability and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness,
• Dove Recovery House for Women, for their Steps to Success program that provides help for women seeking addiction recovery. The program will help women access affordable housing, legal services, and early childhood education.
• DREAM Alive Academy, for an expansion of its mentoring of middle and high school students in the Lawrence Township school system.
• Eleven Fifty Academy, for the development of a new initiative, Advancing Tech in 46218. The program focuses on helping Black youth and adults in the 46218 ZIP code to help prepare for careers in the technology sector.
• Englewood Community Development Corp., for the creation of the Cultivating Communities Support Initiative to help individuals and families achieve economy self-sufficiency on the near eastside.
• Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana, for New Beginnings, a program that helps individuals rejoin the workforce following incarceration.
• Horizon House, for a new initiative, Peers Empowering Growth. They will hire and train peer support specialists who can assist others experiencing homelessness.
• HVAF of Indiana, which will support a new initiative, Veterans Workforce Opportunities Renewing Knowledge and Skills, which will support homeless veterans by helping them find stable housing and employment.
• RecycleForce, for the Training Peer Leaders for the Workplace program, which helps individuals re-entering the community following incarceration.
• Southeast Community Services for the new Family Success Initiative that provides support for individuals in the Twin Aire community.
• The Sagamore Institute, for expanding Purposeful Design, a program that trains, employs and mentors individuals through its woodworing and metal fabrication shop on the east side.
