• There will be mass vaccinations at the Speedway throughout April, with over 96,000 Johnson & Johnson shots available. Visit ourshot.in.gov or call 211 to get your appointment. Currently, about 21% of Marion County residents have had at least one shot (or the “one and done” J & J vaccine). Statewide, only about 16.3% have been vaccinated.
• Those of you who have been vaccinated should keep a copy of the vaccination record in a safe place and make a copy of it for your records. As things begin to open back up, you may be asked to produce proof of vaccination to attend concerts, sporting events, or travel.
• The Benton House is offering an Easter Egg coloring event. Visit their Facebook page to print off their page, or go to Hampton Designs at 5515 E. Washington St. for a copy. They will display the eggs in their windows for everyone to appreciate. Drop off finished artwork on the back deck of the Benton House, 312 S. Downey Ave.
• Otterbein Neighborhood Association and Otterbein UMC will have a community Easter Egg Hunt (complete with the Easter Bunny) on Saturday, April 3 at noon, rain or shine. This is open for toddlers through 7th grade. This fun activity will take place at: 5009 E. 21st St.
• HUD funding has come through for a variety of projects. Among the groups getting funding are Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership for their repair program, Riley Development for rehabbing residential units, Southeast Neighborhood Development for new single family homes in Norwood, the Nowland Avenue Bridge repair project in Spades Park, and HealthNet’s program to help people experiencing homelessness.
• Lauren Rodriguez has been named director of the Office of Public Health and Safety and Morgan Mickelson as the director for the Office of Sustainability for Indianapolis.
• There will be a town hall meeting regarding the future of Beech Grove firefighting operations with Indianapolis Fire Dept. on Tuesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hornet Park Community Center. The public is invited to attend. The center is located at 5245 Hornet Ave. in Beech Grove.
• The city of Greenfield is holding a two-week program of picking up heavy trash items within city limits. On April 17 on the east side of State Road 9 items will be picked up, and on April 24 the west side of State Road 9. Residents having heavy items to pick up should place them at curbside by 7 a.m. They do not pick up at businesses, apartment complexes or churches. No TVs, tires, oil, batteries, building materials or toxic items will be picked up.
