U.S. — Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020. FEMA will being to implement this assistance in April 2021. A toll-free number will be established to apply.
To be eligible, the death must have occurred in the U.S. or one of its territories, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, and the death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19.
FEMA will begin accepting applications in April. Applicants must have an official death certificate, funeral expense documents, and proof of funds received from other sources. FEMA will not duplicate funds received from burial or funeral insurance, assistance received from voluntary agencies, government agencies, or other sources.
