Applause!: March 26-April 1

• The Warren Central World Guard and Warren Central JV Guard are going to Indiana Winter Guard State Finals. This is the first time in school history that both the varsity and junior varsity level teams have qualified for state finals. Additionally, Warren Township’s Prelude and Cadet middle school winter guard have  qualified for finals. This makes Warren Township the only school district in Indiana to ever have four finalist teams at State. The winter guards have 99 students are led by directors Ms. Gervasio, Ms. Howland, Mrs. Laurel, Ms. Holcomb, Ms. Cladwell, Mrs. Schurger, and Mr. Meckes.
• All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) branches will be closed Friday, April 2 in observance of the Good Friday holiday.Branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Saturday, April 3.
• If you are looking for affordable art and dance classes for adults and teens, you might want to check out the Garfield Park Arts Center on the southeast side. They are currently offering classes on flow painting, watercolor landscape painting, clay handbuilding with award-winning artist Jude Odell, and lots more. • There will be a free paper shredding and appliance recycling event on Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m.-noon behind Beech Grove City Hall. Bring your stuff — but please, no tube TVs.
• Indy Magic is returning after a year of lockdown! Taylor Martin will host Ryan Siebert and The Amazing Barry on Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the IndyFringe Outdoor Theatre. Tickets are available on IndyFringe.org or at the door for $20. The outdoor theatre is located at 719 E. St. Clair.
• City Market is now offering bocce ball and cornhole leagues. Teams are made up of 4 to 8 players. Regular seasons are 6 weeks of regular play with 1-2 weeks of tournaments. You can form a team and register at ccasports.com beginning March 31.
• Apparently people think it is a “thing” to take a picture of their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and plaster it all over social media. While everyone is happy you got the shot(s), please don’t do this! There is personal info on the card that scammers and thieves can use.
• With stimulus checks going into people’s bank accounts, scammers have stepped up ways to separate you from your cash. Beware of text messages and phone calls saying you owe Amazon or a utility company hundreds of dollars that must be paid immediately or you will be arrested or prosecuted. They seem to be calling from local numbers to seem more legitimate, but they aren’t. Hang up immediately. Better yet, don’t answer numbers you don’t recognize. Daffodils-at-Benton-House
• The Benton House grounds are in bloom! Thanks to the hard work of Ed Meyers and the Irvington Garden Club, there is a beautiful display of crocus, daffodils, tulips, Siberian scilla, and more. The gardens are planted with heirloom species that you might have found in gardens in 1873 when the house was built. Check it out at 312 S. Downey Ave.
