LAWRENCE — Poets Laureate of Lawrence, part of Arts for Lawrence since 2007, will be taking part in the Fort Ben Cultural Campus Grand Opening on Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22. The campus will include the Theater at the Fort, the Visual Arts Center, classrooms, a resident artist studio, and an art gallery. Poets Laureate will continue to host a monthly poetry reading night and explore ways to increase opportunities for writing, spoken word, and storytelling offerings in the future. When it is safe to do so, Poets Laureate will begin meeting in AFL’s new boardroom. The new campus is located at 8920 Otis Ave. in Lawrence.
To help celebrate the grand opening, our first new venture is to publish Volume One of Laureate – The Literary Journal of Arts for Lawrence. The theme will be “grand opening,” and they are seeking submissions that explores the ways in which poetry, writing, art, and more open us to life and each other.
Send up to 5 poems and/or 1 piece of fiction or prose by the deadline of March 31, by e-mail only to lawrencepoets@gmail.com
