INDIANAPOLIS — State Rep. Blake Johnson (D-Indianapolis) recently announced that applications for the 2021 Mary Moriarty Adams Memorial Scholarship are now open to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate a strong commitment to public and community service.
The program was launched in 2016 by Indiana State Representative Blake Johnson and his wife, Natalie Clayton, and was renamed in honor of longtime Indianapolis City Councilwoman and devoted public servant Mary Moriarty Adams after her passing.
Graduating high school seniors who reside in or attend school in Indiana House District 100 are eligible to apply for this year’s one-time, $5,000 award. Applicants can determine which House District their home or school is in by using the Find Your Legislator tool on the Indiana General Assembly Web site, iga.in.gov
Successful applicants will have a record of academic achievement, community engagement and volunteerism. Those hoping to pursue a career in public service or community development (i.e. public safety, education, public health, public policy, entrepreneurship, elected leadership, etc.) are also encouraged to apply.
This scholarship is made possible through a donation by Indiana State Representative Blake Johnson and Natalie Clayton. The Historic Irvington Community Council administers the fund directly to the recipient’s chosen university or college.
Those interested in applying will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation, their high school transcript and the online application found at https://www.cognitoforms.com/IndianaHouseOfRepresentatives/_2021MaryMoriartyAdamsMemorialScholarship. Applications must be in by April 30.
