Meet the Artists XXXIII: An All-Star Virtual Event

INDIANAPOLIS — Celebrate local Black artists during Meet the Artists XXXIII, running through March 27 at Central Library and other branch Libraries. This year’s showcase will promote the theme “All-Star” and highlight the works of artists, sculptors, authors, filmmakers, and musicians. The “All- Star” theme plays tribute to the NBA All-Star game that was scheduled to take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Feb 2021, but was rescheduled to 2024 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The events will be virtual, and the artwork will be displayed at Central and various branches, with hopes that libraries will reopen for public browsing in the near future.
Several Meet the Artists XXXIII programs are scheduled, including youth and family virtual art workshops with notable artists, film features, dance and music artists, painting workshops, and much more. Programming will conclude with the popular All-Star Fashion Show coordinated by local stylist Nicole Rene on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7p.m. Patrons can register for workshops and attend events in the comfort of their home by visiting indypl.org/mta and clicking “online programs.”
At Central Library, several artists will have their works in the Yellow Gallery, including Terry Wilson, Heath Holland, James Pate, Mechi Shakur, Shayla Renee Williams, and Jason Jones. Large sculptures will be on Floors 3-5, created by Nina McCoy, and Dennis Green. Textile arts will be featured in cases, as well as jewelry, ceramics and dollmaking. The works of youth artists will be located in the Simon Room. Currently, the Central Library is closed to everything but computer use and curbside pickup.
Black authors will also have a showcase at Central Library, including Lauren Ariel Beaver, Dr. Leonard Scott,  Roselyn E. Huggins Douglass, Alonda K. Peoples, and Linda Lewis.
Display cases at the Beech Grove, Pike, Decatur, and East 38th St. will also feature Black artists and their works.
Year round, Central Library’s Center for Black Literature & Culture celebrates the vibrant culture and heritage of those born of African roots. In the Center, visitors will find the Murals for Justice Collection. Patrons may check out vinyl banners of the collection for up to 42 days.
