• The Horner House on Emerson just north of Brookville Rd. has been sold by Amanda and Eric Browning, who have tried for years to restore the beautiful old home to its former glory. However, the badly damaged home just became too much for the couple to handle. No information yet about the new owners and their plans, but we thank the Brownings for all their efforts to keep the wrecking ball away.
• Congratulations to former Irvingtonian William Aughe for his recent appointment as Shelby County Historian. Bill worked with the Irvington Historic Landmarks Foundation.
• The City of Lawrence has extended its local emergency order until at least Jan. 24. Public access to government buildings remains restricted to essential personnel; some accommodation has been made for the public to participate in meetings. • As of Tuesday, Jan. 19, the state of Indiana has experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases. Total deaths in the state are nearly 9,000 and 592,709 Hoosiers have tested positive. The vaccine is available on a limited basis to those who are over 70 years old, and residents are being urged to get the vaccine as soon as possible. In Marion County, the Indiana Dept. of Health has a Web site that can help you schedule your vaccination, vaccine.coronavirus.in.gov or OurShot.in.gov or by calling 211. In the meantime, please wear a mask in public, wash your hands regularly, and keep at least 6 feet apart from others to slow the spread of the virus.

• IMPD is still searching for 26-year-old Kirsten Brueggeman who was last seen walking near 10th and Shortridge on Jan. 2 at 12:20 a.m.. She was wearing a grey stocking cap, and short black coat and white handbag. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact IMPD Missing Persons at 317-327-6160 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477. Teams have been out scouring the area for her for weeks.
• FIDO, Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside, continues to do a great job of helping dogs (and cats) in need on the east side. Between the pet food pantry, outreach on their fencing program to help keep pooches off tie-outs, and transporting animals for spay/neuter appointments, FIDO has definitely improved the quality of life for eastside pets. The warehouse open hours are Sundays from noon-3 p.m., when doors are open to assist clients, receive donations, and answer questions. The warehouse is located at 1505 N. Sherman.
