LAWRENCE — The Indianapolis Public Library’s Lawrence Branch, located at 7898 Hague Road, is officially reopened after being closed over ten months for extensive renovations. The $1.5 million project was the first major renovation since the 13,500-squre-foot building opened in 1983, and experienced delays due to Covid-19.
New features include an updated entrance, more windows for natural lighting, and improved access to technology. Additionally there are new public restrooms, added outlets and charging stations for patrons, and engaging new spaces for kids, teens, and adults. New group study and tutoring rooms were also part of the project, but these will not be available due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most improvements are from suggestions received during a series of community input meetings hosted in 2019 by project architects from Rowland Design of Indianapolis.
IndyPL expects high levels of interest in visiting the Lawrence Branch, but encourages patience as all libraries currently have capacity limits due to COVID-19. Additionally, all library locations have had a face mask requirement in place since reopening in June. Other precautions include one-hour time limits for patrons when necessitated by building capacity limits, accessible hand sanitizer, regular surface cleaning, and quarantining of returned books and other library materials.
