Kevin D. Rose Memorial “Carve the Tree” Event

CUMBERLAND — Kevin D. Rose, co-pastor at Cumberland First Baptist Church, Cumberland, who died in 2018, is being honored by his church family with a 12 foot tree sculpture on the church grounds. This inspirational sculpture will incorporate about forty images that had particular meaning to him. It will be located in close proximity to the Cumberland Labyrinth and become a place of reflection.
A virtual fundraiser “The Kevin D. Rose Memorial “Carve the Tree” will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The virtual live stream event, hosted by Sally Perkins, Storytelling Arts of Indiana and close, personal friend of Kevin, will incorporate music and stories loved by Kevin into a celebration of his life. Other performers include T. Wyatt Watkins, pastor at Cumberland FBC, Paulo Castro, Jan Aldridge-Clark, Danielle Hartman, Brianna Holt, Jen Midkiff, Seth Staton (Watkins) and Corby York.
Phil Campbell, the selected artist for the memorial sculpture and an accomplished artist in the media’s of wood carving and fabric designs, will share the challenges of the project.  He will also talk about the compelling reasons for creating this unique tree sculpture.

People can provide support to the “Carve the Tree” event in a variety of ways. There are no formal ticket sales but people are encouraged to make a monetary donation, as well as bid on some of Kevin’s personal items in the silent auction or sponsor one of the amazing images being carved into the tree.
