INDIANAPOLIS — Several Indianapolis cultural and arts attractions are beginning to reopen to the public. State and local officials have relaxed restrictions, and after three months of closures, limited gatherings are once again permitted.
The Indianapolis Zoo, 1200 W. Washington St., has announced it will reopen to the public June 19. All guests and members must have a timed ticket purchased in advance online at their Web site, indianapoliszoo.com. Tickets are free to members, but they must reserve a spot in advance for any guests in their party. Guests are urged to perform health checks on the entire party before coming to the zoo. Staff will wear masks and guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks as well. All transactions at the Zoo will be cashless. In addition, guests will be expected to follow physical distancing guidelines and follow one-way paths marked on walkways. Playgrounds, rides, and overnight visits are still closed.
The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art plans to reopen for business on Saturday, June 20. The first week, June 20 to June 26, will be a members appreciation week as the Eiteljorg will be open for its museum members only. Then starting Saturday June 27, the museum will be open to the general public with regular admission. As a thank-you for the public’s patience, the Eiteljorg has extended popular exhibitions that were interrupted by the pandemic, so that visitors can catch up on what they missed. Quilts: Uncovering Women’s Stories, Please Touch: The Sculptures of Michael Naranjor, and For A Love of His People: The Photography of Horace Poolaw will be open. All guests are required to wear face masks and will receive a non-invasive temperature check before entering. Guests must follow the blue “permission lines” marked on the floor to maintain physical distancing around exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online at www.eiteljorg.org in advance.
The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites will begin reopening June 19. At the Indiana State Museum, visitors may purchase tickets online on the Web site, indianamuseum.org, or at the ticket counter upon arrival. Face masks are strongly encouraged, and physical distancing measures are being taken. Visitors can walk through the galleries in one direction. High touch spaces like the Firefly Landing are closed. The IMAX Theater is tentatively scheduled to open June 26.
All attractions will have several hand sanitizer stations throughout the facilities, and will closely monitor spaces to ensure safe physical distancing.
