• Happy Father’s Day, June 21, out there to the dads, gramps, uncles, and other guys who helped raise us!
• The BMV informs us that they are being overwhelmed with walk-ins as branch service has resumed June 15. Wait times at some branches are over an hour long. They are encouraging everyone to do as much of their business as possible online or at kiosks throughout the city. Visit mybmv.bmv.in.gov to renew tags and carry out routine transactions.
• The Indiana Brewery Running Series will include the Black Acre 5K-ish run on Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. The course winds through the Irvington area (roads will NOT be closed, so drivers should stay alert). All participants receive free craft brews from Black Acre, plus swag from the Running Series. Fees are from $30-$100. Registration is limited, so sign up ASAP on the links from the Black Acre Facebook page.
• Historian and Madam Walker biographer A’Lelia Bundles will present commentary, archive clips, and more about the Netflix limited series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker in an online discussion on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. Hosted by the Indiana Historical Society, this online event is $10 for nonmembers and $5 for members. Tickets are available at indianahistory.org
• Blood donations are down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the American Red Cross is in urgent need for blood and platelets. They will test for COVID-19 antibodies, which are truly needed. Blood drives in the area are ongoing, and a list and registration information can be found at redcrossblood.org
• The City of Indianapolis recently released a Request For Information (RFI) for the creative reuse of electric and telecommunications infrastructure originally designated for the electric vehicle carsharing company BlueIndy. There are 89 sites formerly used as electric vehicle charging spaces. Respondents are encouraged to offer solutions that take advantage of previous investments by the City and Indianapolis Power & Light and do not require additional City funding. The RFI can be found at indy.gov/workflow/find-bid-opportunities as RFI-14DPW-01302. The City will be taking submissions from contractors until Aug. 14.
• Jones Tabernacle has free clothing and groceries every other Tuesday for the community. The next one is June 23rd. The address for the church is 2510 E. 34th St.
• Indianapolis continues its street-sweeping services, and needs to remind folks to move their cars from on-street parking so the sweepers can do their job. You can also help by removing large sticks and branches from the curb, and avoid blowing grass, litter, and other objects into the street. Residents that are unsure if their road is part of the street sweeping program or when their street is scheduled to be swept can find more information at indy.gov/sweep.
